Question by Chae: How is it that the Chinese language came to influence others?
Is there an event in history or anything of the like that explains how several other languages such as Japanese and Korean borrow a great deal of their language from Chinese?

I wear’t think so. It’s just like other languages became influential: some dialect acquired the favour of some court or government, spread over a country, and through it’s army to other countries, got some scientists, and then you have a situation where korean/japanese populate who desire to become doctors etc had to learn mandarin-chinese/putonghoa(?) for their studies – just like europeans had to learn latin.
